    • Landgate created Australia's first government innovation program in 2008
    • Western Australia's land agency recognised globally for innovation

Landgate today celebrated the 10-year anniversary of its groundbreaking innovation program.

Landgate's innovation program was the first of its kind in the public sector.  Since its inception in 2008, it has funded more than 150 improvements that have generated customer and efficiency benefits for the State.

Landgate's innovation program has led to significant gains for the WA community, including the development of a world-first digital land registry.

The New Land Registry (NLR™) moved the colonial-era paper titling system to a cloud-based system, providing significant benefits to Western Australians including a 35 per cent reduction in turnaround times.

This idea, which originally came from a Landgate staff member, is now being commercialised for use in other jurisdictions.

The various developments led to Landgate being named the 22nd most innovative company in the nation in 2016 by the Australian Financial Review.

Landgate also created SPUR, Landgate's location technology hub.  SPUR is currently helping local WA start-ups with access to data, funding, contacts and business mentoring. SPUR also leads the implementation of the State's open data policy that is helping share government and private sector data and information more broadly.

Comments attributed to Lands Minister Rita Saffioti:

"Landgate broke new ground when it developed its innovation program in 2008.  The foundations laid back then led to the dynamic, innovative agency it is today.

"Landgate's innovation program draws on the rich experience and insights of the agency's employees to find new ways to add value to the business, improve customer service and deliver efficiencies to the State.

"SPUR is now building on these achievements by supporting start-ups develop new products and services that are benefiting the community and helping to diversify our economy."
