    • 141 people killed on South-West roads between 2012-16
    • 18 people have lost their lives on South-West roads so far in 2017
    • 2018 calendar to promote road safety every day of the year

Road Safety Minister Michelle Roberts is urging South-West drivers to show care and consideration for one another on the roads this festive season.

Mrs Roberts joined Collie-Preston MLA Mick Murray in Collie today to launch the Industry Road Safety Alliance South West's Road Ribbon for Road Safety Campaign.

The Industry Road Safety Alliance South West brings together industry, government, police and community groups in a collaborative effort aimed at reducing road trauma in the region.

The Minister also unveiled the 2018 Road Safety Calendar - a local initiative developed with Road Trauma Trust Account funding.

The calendar showcases artwork and photography from residents across the region and is intended to keep road safety front and centre in the minds of road users every day of the year.

The calendar will be distributed free of charge to residents in the area.

Comments attributed to Road Safety Minister Michelle Roberts:

"This festive season we want all Western Australians to travel safely and enjoy time with their family and friends.

"I congratulate the Industry Road Safety Alliance South West for their commitment to reducing road trauma in the region.

"We all have one focus - to save lives, so it is vitally important that industry groups continue to work with government and the community to develop effective road safety strategies.

"Let us all show some courtesy, consideration and care on the roads this holiday season."

Comments attributed to Collie-Preston MLA Mick Murray:

"The Collie, Harvey, and Greater Bunbury regions have seen far too many people lose their lives in avoidable accidents in recent years.

"I ask all road users to be mindful that while the Christmas period is a time when we often see incidents spike, being vigilant and responsible should be front-of-mind year round.

"The 2018 Road Safety Calendar is an important locally developed initiative to emphasise the importance of safe road use 365 days a year."
