    • Agreement signed for Western Australia to join nationally delivered NDIS
    • Agreement offers certainty to Western Australians with a disability, their families and their carers
    • National scheme provides WA with best opportunity to benefit from NDIS
    • All eligible Western Australians will transition into the scheme by July 2020

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Western Australian Premier Mark McGowan have today announced a new agreement to bring Western Australia into the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

The NDIS is one of the largest social policy reforms in Australia's history. Today's agreement replaces the agreement signed in late January 2017 by the previous Western Australian Government for a Western Australian administered NDIS.

From July 1, 2018, the National Disability Insurance Agency will assume responsibility for the delivery of the NDIS in WA.

The NDIS will continue to roll out on a geographic basis and will be fully rolled out across Western Australia by 2020.

People already taking part in the WA NDIS will transfer to the nationally delivered Scheme in a phased approach from April 2018 and conclude by December 2018.

The Commonwealth and Western Australian governments will work closely with the National Disability Insurance Agency to implement the transition.

Comments attributed to Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull:

"Western Australians with disability, as well as their families and carers, now have certainty on the future of the NDIS.

"Joining the nationally delivered NDIS means people with disability in Western Australia will have the support they need into the future.

"Today's announcement shows the shared commitment by Australian Governments to the NDIS and is the final step towards making the NDIS a truly national scheme."

Comments attributed to Premier Mark McGowan:

"Our priority has been ensuring the best outcome for Western Australians with disability, their carers and their families.

"After careful deliberation, we have concluded that joining the national Scheme will provide the best foundation for Western Australians to benefit from the NDIS, now and into the future.

"Western Australians with disability need, and will now have, certainty that their care and supports are provided for.

"This decision demonstrates my Government's commitment to being part of a once in a generation change that can only be truly successful as a national endeavour."
