    • State Government contributes more than $400,000 to important community project

Grassroots sport in Kalbarri has been enhanced with the opening of a new Royalties for Regions-supported multi-sport facility for tennis, netball and basketball.

Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray visited Kalbarri today to open the new facility, which features four courts able to be used for tennis, netball and basketball.

The $668,000 project also includes new cricket practice nets and a tennis hit-up wall.

The new complex, which includes social rooms and change rooms, is located in the centre of Kalbarri and provides a much-needed replacement to deteriorated facilities.

The State Government contributed $225,000 in funding from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries' Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund, and $184,190 from Royalties for Regions.

Comments attributed to Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray:

"Quality sporting facilities are important to create active and engaged communities, especially in regional centres where sport is so often the glue which binds a community together.

"These courts replace what was a tired, worn-out facility - and will offer a shot in the arm to local tennis, basketball and netball players.

"The courts are now right in the middle of town within easy walking distance and built next to a good facility that includes social rooms and change rooms which were previously under-utilised.

"Congratulations also to the local community who also did their bit by raising $24,000 towards the project."
