- $150,000 for Gosnells Cricket Club towards new indoor, all-weather nets
- Local Projects, Local Jobs funding more than 200 individual sport and recreation projects across WA
Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray this week joined Southern River MLA Terry Healy to deliver on an election commitment to fund $150,000 towards new indoor, all-weather nets at Gosnells Cricket Club.
Drawn from the McGowan Government's Local Projects, Local Jobs fund, the new cricket facilities will provide the club with an all-weather facility, allowing the WACA feeder club's players to train year-round
Mr Healy led the local campaign for the indoor nets, including $150,000 funding for the project as one of his commitments at the 2017 State Election. Gosnells Cricket Club will contribute $150,000 to the project, with the City of Gosnells also to contribute at least $150,000.
The club's status as a WACA feeder club means players from throughout the southern suburbs will benefit from the upgrades.
The McGowan Government's Local Projects, Local Jobs initiative is funding more than 200 community sport and recreation projects across the State, creating jobs and building stronger and healthier communities.
Comments attributed to Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray:
"Terry's dogged commitment to getting these upgrades for the Gosnells Cricket Club has paid off for the community, with local cricketers soon able to train year-round.
"Not only will the project benefit cricketers in the local area, it will boost the cricket club's status as a WACA feeder club, and maybe help produce a future Australian champion.
"Local Projects, Local Jobs not only helps grassroots sports clubs with upgrades to their facilities, it creates jobs for local people in the process."
Comments attributed to Southern River MLA Terry Healy:
"As the local member, I was proud to recommend this as a priority project for local cricketers and the wider community.
"Gosnells Cricket Club is a fantastic local organisation and these funds will mean we can have an absolutely top, all-weather indoor facility."
