Road Safety Minister Michelle Roberts today launched the State's newest Industry Road Safety Alliance in Broome.

Stakeholders from State and local governments, WA Police and local industry and community groups have formed the Kimberley Industry Road Safety Alliance (KIRSA), the sixth such alliance for Western Australia.

KIRSA members have already met and identified key road safety issues unique to the region, including stray cattle, unsealed roads and drivers who are unfamiliar with road conditions in the Kimberley.

Industry Road Safety Alliances are developed and supported by the Road Safety Commission's partnership program and focus the efforts of industry bodies and government agencies to improve road safety.

Comments attributed to Road Safety Minister Michelle Roberts:

"The McGowan Government is committed to road safety and reducing death and serious injuries on our roads.

"This can only be done with the commitment, participation and co-operation of the entire community.

"What might be the best road safety solution in one location, may not be as relevant elsewhere.

"Road safety works better in consultation with local people who can develop an effective response to meet the needs of the community.

"I congratulate the Kimberley Industry Road Safety Alliance on its commitment to road safety and reducing road trauma in the region."
