- METRONET-linked housing project to yield up to 3,000 homes
- 220 hectare landholding to be developed in the heart of the Swan Valley
Housing Minister Peter Tinley today announced the selection of Peet Limited as the preferred proponent for final negotiations as development partner for the Housing Authority's 220 hectare site at Lot 800 Youle-Dean Road, Brabham.
Located 22 kilometres from the city centre, the Brabham project, which is part of the McGowan Government's METRONET transport centrepiece, will be a major transit-oriented development linking the Swan Valley to Perth.
Brabham will offer a modern, diverse and sustainable community and maintain continuity of affordable and social housing in Perth's north-east corridor.
The site will potentially yield more than 3,000 dwellings, schools, neighbourhood shops and recreational areas close to the proposed Whiteman Park train station.
Housing will now invite Peet into final negotiations of the contract. During this phase, it will consider Peet's detailed proposal including project delivery, design, commercial terms and structuring.
A formal agreement is anticipated by December 2017 with construction starting in 2019. Overall economic activity is estimated at $2.32 billion. It is expected to create more than 1,900 direct jobs and generate activity in 5,900 indirect jobs.
Comments attributed to Housing Minister Peter Tinley:
"This is a significant boost to the stock of affordable housing and aligns to the Government's plans for METRONET, with plans for a station at Whiteman Park by 2022.
"Peet is a well-established, well-recognised developer with successful developments in WA, including award-winning developments at Wellard and Golden Bay. In addition, Peet has innovative developments in other States, like Lightsview in South Australia.
"While commercial negotiations are not yet concluded, this is a significant development and will see housing lots come to market in the next two years."
