    • Iain Cameron will be the new interim Road Safety Commissioner

Road Safety Minister Michelle Roberts today welcomed Iain Cameron who will be acting in the role of Road Safety Commissioner.

In doing so, she paid tribute to the work of outgoing commissioner Kim Papalia.

Mr Papalia was appointed as Western Australia's first Road Safety Commissioner in October 2015.

In April 2017, the State Government announced, as part of the Machinery of Government changes, the Road Safety Commission would come under the administration of WA Police.

It was anticipated Mr Papalia would continue in his role as commissioner, but he has sought not to continue under the new structural arrangement.

Comments attributed to Road Safety Minister Michelle Roberts:

"I'm surprised Mr Papalia has chosen not to continue in the role.

"He has made a strong contribution to road safety policies and campaigns over the last two years, and I am grateful for the work he has done with the Road Safety Commission.

"Given Mr Papalia's decision, I am pleased to announce Iain Cameron is able to be seconded into the role.

"Mr Cameron has very strong credentials in road safety which are recognised nationally and internationally.

"He was instrumental in the development of the Towards Zero Road Safety Strategy.

"He is highly experienced and well regarded in the field of road safety, and I look forward to working with him in the very important task of improving road safety in Western Australia."
