    • Senior associate and active member of the West Pilbara Liquor Accord, Cassandra Wright, appointed Chair of the Combat Sports Commission
    • Commission responsible for overseeing the Combat Sports Act to ensure health and safety of participants

Cassandra Wright has been appointed the new Chair of the Combat Sports Commission, the authority responsible for the safe regulation of combat sports in Western Australia.

Ms Wright's appointment follows the recent gazettal of the new rules for mixed martial arts (MMA) contests to allow the use of fenced enclosures.

The State Government supports the use of fenced enclosures for MMA in the interests of contestant safety. The appointment of Ms Wright to the Combat Sports Commission will ensure athlete protection continues to be at the forefront for MMA and other combat sports in WA.

Comments attributed to Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray:

"I welcome the appointment of Cassandra Wright as the Chair of the Combat Sports Commission and look forward to working productively with all members to enforce the rules and safety guidelines for combat sports.

"Cassandra's background and qualifications are well suited to the priority work being undertaken by the Combat Sports Commission.

"I also thank the previous chair, Roslyn Carbon, for her significant contribution over the past year.

"Ms Carbon has carried dual roles and workloads since last year as chair and medical practitioner and has done a tremendous job during that time. It is pleasing to know that Roslyn's experience and knowledge will be maintained as the ongoing medical practitioner."
