- Traffic flow and safety improved with upgrades completed at two congestion hotspots in the northern suburbs
Major upgrades to two busy intersections in Perth's growing northern suburbs have been completed ahead of schedule.
The two intersections connecting Marmion Avenue with Hepburn Avenue and Whitfords Avenue are now operational following a $12 million State Government investment towards easing congestion.
Upgrade works involved widening the intersections to provide additional and longer turning lanes, installation of CCTV and improved pedestrian and cycling facilities.
CCTV has been installed to improve incident management and for Main Roads Western Australia to make traffic signal adjustments that will advance traffic flow during the busiest times.
The intersections, used by about 72,000 vehicles per day, are now significantly safer and more efficient for drivers during peak periods.
Both intersection upgrades were delivered as part of Main Roads' Traffic Congestion Management Program with the final road configuration now in place for road users two months ahead of schedule.
The City of Joondalup will now manage final landscaping works at both intersections, which are due for completion this winter.
All vegetation cleared to make way for the widening works was mulched and re-used on site. Old concrete kerbing and pavement removed was crushed for road base while all excess soil and rock was recycled.
As growth continues in the northern suburbs, the McGowan Labor Government is planning to further relieve congestion by extending METRONET to Yanchep. Creating local jobs and building METRONET is a key priority as the population swells in Perth's northern corridor.
