    • 2017 Perth Airport Achiever Awards presentation event at City Farm
    • Up to $43,000 will be awarded this year to 25 young people

Twenty-five young people who have overcome adversity to realise their future potential and dreams have been recognised today at the Perth Airport Achiever Awards.

The Achiever Awards are the only known honours of their kind in Australia that financially reward young people who are in care - or have left care - to help them pursue further education or training.

This year, each winner aged 15 to 25 years will be awarded up to $4,000 each to lessen the financial burden so they can focus more on the important aspect of learning.

The awards are supported by Perth Airport, Edith Cowan University, The University of Notre Dame Australia, Curtin University, Foster Care Association Western Australia (Inc.), Murdoch University, RTRfm 92.1, Scitech and the Leeuwin Ocean Adventure Foundation.

Comments attributed to Minister for Child Protection Simone McGurk:

"I congratulate our inspirational young winners. They have had a tough start to life, but found strength within themselves to pursue further education and training that has the potential to significantly transform their lives.

"It's equally important to acknowledge the young winners' support network, which includes family and foster carers, who have helped them along the way.

"Not only have they provided them a safe and stable home, but their love, ongoing support and guidance have allowed these young people to grow and realise that they can achieve their dreams.

"When they decided to open their heart and home to fostering, they took on a great responsibility of becoming the person that every child deserves, an adult who will never give up on them."

Comments attributed to Perth Airport's Chief Corporate Services Officer Debra Blaskett:

"Perth Airport is proud to be associated with the Achiever Awards and to continue its support for the eighth consecutive year.
