Deputy Premier Ian Taylor reaffirmed today the Government's intention to establish an office of the Pilbara Development Commission in Newman.
"From the very outset it has been planned to have an office in Newman," Mr Taylor said.
"The Development Commission's brief is to develop and expand business and industrial opportunities in the region and a location in Newman will be essential to the achievement of those goals.
"Newman plays a vital role in the development of the whole of the Pilbara and the appointment will enable Newman residents to have input into the operation of the Pilbara Development Commission.
"An officer will be appointed to Newman as soon as is practical after the election.
"As with any appointment of this nature, an appropriate person needs to be found in order for the Commission's work to progress satisfactorily.
"I am confident that the people of Newman will be well served by the Commission and will enjoy the benefits of its work."
