More than 75,000 Western Australian children and adults start vacation swimming classes today at more than 200 venues across the State.
Education Minister Kay Hallahan joined youngsters slip, slop, slapping as she launched the program today at Balga Aquatic Centre.
Mrs Hallahan said vacation swimming classes were open to anybody over five years old and offered 16 levels from beginners to Bronze Medallion life saving standard.
The Ministry of Education has run the popular classes since 1919 when open water sessions were first held at Claremont Baths, Mosman's Jetty and Fremantle.
"The classes are an affordable way for children and adults to learn swimming and water safety," she said.
