Opposition industrial relations policy a hoax

The Liberal Party's call for the TLC to support their industrial relations policies was quite ridiculous when the policies had not been declared in any detail, Productivity and Labour Relations Minister Yvonne Henderson said today.

Mrs Henderson said the Liberal Party's policy was a hoax which left all the important questions unanswered, just as their pre-election policy in Victoria had done.

It claimed to provide the security of minimum standards, but Opposition Leader Richard Court had refused to name those standards.

"The Liberal Party's policy does not reveal their minimum standards.  It hides behind a statement that they would consider input from interested groups prior to setting minimum conditions - but there would be no protracted debate because decisions must be taken without delay.

"We have only to look to Victoria, where prior to the election Jeff Kennett said no worker would lose pay or conditions, and see what the Liberals do when they come to power.

"How could anyone concerned for the plight of workers pledge support for the Liberals' plans?"
