    Water Resources Minister Ernie Bridge said the review of drainage charges in the South-West had been instigated by the Government because of public concern over issues including:

    ·         funding of the service;
    ·         a desire for increased local management; and
    ·         degradation of rivers, wetlands and downstream estuaries.

    A comprehensive report and recommendations had been received and would be considered by Cabinet before being released publicly.

    No decision would be made on the recommendations before local residents had been given a full opportunity to comment on the report.

    Mr Bridge said it was disappointing the Farmers' Federation wanted to turn such an important issue into a political football by seeking a decision in advance of public comment and in the midst of an election campaign.
