There were 283 apprentices in the lower Great Southern, despite Opposition claims to the contrary, Training Minister Kay Hallahan said today.
Mrs Hallahan said Stirling MLA Monty House was misrepresenting her answer to a Parliamentary question by claiming there were only seven apprentices in the Great Southern.
"Ambiguous questions attract ambiguous answers," she said.
Mrs Hallahan said the Federal and State Governments had made a massive commitment to apprentices by offering incentives of up to $7,000 a year to encourage employers to take on new apprentices.
"This is in stark contrast to the Opposition, which has no serious commitment to the training needs of young people," she said.
"Indeed, Mr House's party colleagues in Victoria are mounting a vicious attack on the pay and conditions of workers."
