Country people in Western Australia will be able to celebrate the Queen's Birthday holiday on a day of local significance next year.
Productivity and Labour Relations Minister Yvonne Henderson said the official public holiday would be Monday, October 4.
The holiday had been proclaimed to coincide with the Monday of Royal Show week in Perth, as it was this year.
"However, the State Government recognises the importance of local festivals and events of significance such as race days in centres outside the metropolitan area," Mrs Henderson said.
"Local councils are invited to apply for the holiday date to be varied, after suitable consultation in their region."
Councils should make their application by January 15.
