Consumer Affairs Minister Yvonne Henderson has urged tenants with bonds frozen in the Permanent Building Society to inquire about a possible dividend by next Wednesday.

Mrs Henderson said it was pleasing news for these tenants that the society's liquidator had announced that they would receive a dividend payment of 75 cents in the dollar.

To be eligible, bond account holders had to prove their debt or claim formally by no later than December 9.

Mrs Henderson said she had been notified by the Tenants' Advice Service that tenants with bond money frozen in PBS in a withdrawable share account should check with the liquidator's office on the status of their account.

She said it was good news for tenants who had lost hope of receiving any refund and it was important that they did not miss out on what was now being made available.
