Many thousands of Western Australian children and their families are expected to take advantage of holiday activities organised by the State Government in the New Year.
The Premier today announced details of the activities and special days from January 6 to 31 as part of the Government's Social Advantage program to provide free or low-cost school holiday events.
Dr Lawrence said applications were invited from community groups and organisation for Government funding under the Sunfest program to provide holiday activities.
Already funding approval had been given to holiday activities ranging from roller blading, camps and surfing to boat building and an aviation course.
In addition, a Family Fun Day program costing $150,000 had been organised for four days in January.
Dr Lawrence said the Family Fun Days would be on Wednesday, January 6, Wednesday, January 13, Sunday, January 24 and Sunday, January 31. The days and activities would be advertised in the media with the Sunfest school holiday programs.
The activities would take place in national parks, beaches, museums, art galleries, libraries and at the Perth Zoo.
Today's launch at the Perth Cultural Centre also featured a special multi-coloured Transperth bus, which would transport entertainers to locations participating in the Family Fun Days.
"A comprehensive range of activities for families will be provided from Yanchep to Fremantle," the Premier said.
"They will include habitat walks for children at Yanchep, organised by the Department for Conservation and Land Management (CALM), children's craft workshops in museums, artists working with children at the Art Gallery, special projects in libraries, beach activities and family activities and concerts at the Perth Zoo.
"The Sunfest program caters for all age groups and will offer fun and entertainment during the school holidays."
