Small Business Minister Gordon Hill said the $19 million package of payroll tax concessions announced by the Premier last night would be a welcome boost to small and medium sized businesses in Western Australia.
The Premier announced the package at the WA Chamber of Commerce and Industry's annual dinner.
She said the concessions were designed to encourage employment growth and stimulate the economy.
The package includes:
· an offer to private sector employers with payrolls of $3.2 million or less, a payroll tax rebate of $1,800 for each new employee;
· an increase in the payroll tax threshold by seven per cent; and
· indexing payroll tax thresholds by average weekly earnings.
Mr Hill said the new package should give businesses which were on the verge of expanding the incentive they needed to take on extra staff.
