Premier Carmen Lawrence today welcomed reports of increased job advertisements and retail sales in Western Australia.
Dr Lawrence said that after a decline in August, retail turnover in WA grew five per cent in September to $736.4 million - the largest increase of any State.
ANZ employment statistics, also released today, showed an 11.9 per cent increase in jobs advertised in WA last month compared with September.
"With unemployment figures due out on Thursday, it is encouraging to see a greater increase in jobs being advertised in WA than in any other mainland State," Dr Lawrence said.
"However, the Government acknowledges that there is still a long way to go."
Dr Lawrence said that recent statistics had been most encouraging.
These had shown inflation in Perth at its lowest annual rate in 20 years, more new cars being registered in WA than in any other State and a strong trend in new home finance approvals.
