Sport and Recreation Minister Graham Edwards today released details about the future of Camp Quaranup at Albany.
Mr Edwards said the Ministry of Sport and Recreation camp would be sub-leased to Rockingham couple Rob and Joanne Lucas for five years, with a five-year option.
Mr Lucas is the principal of the Ministry of Education's Point Peron Camp School.
"Expressions of interest were invited from the public in March 1992, and after an extensive consultation process, Mr and Mrs Lucas were selected as the preferred applicants," Mr Edwards said.
"The lease contains a number of requirements to ensure the camp will continue to attract existing clientele and keep prices within reach of the general community.
"The lessees will also be required to maintain the historical and heritage value of the facility."
Mr Edwards said Mr Lucas had extensive experience in outdoor education and would introduce programs such as rowing, orienteering and environmental education.
"I hope that under this new arrangement there will be greater community usage of this facility and that it will become more viable," Mr Edwards said.
He said every endeavour would be made to redeploy the Camp Quaranup staff within the Albany area.
