Agriculture Minister Ernie Bridge has welcomed the formation of the sustainable land use steering group for the Peel-Harvey catchment.
The seven-member group comprising local landholders will work directly with Government officers involved in the catchment to help determine the future direction of the Peel-Harvey program and the allocation of funding to specific programs.
Mr Bridge said the group's formation was another significant step forward in the management of the Peel-Harvey catchment.
"Direct community participation in landcare and water management is essential if we are to tackle existing and potential problems efficiently and effectively," he said.
Mr Bridge congratulated the participants on their initiative, and said they had his full support. He looked forward to meeting with them in the near future.
