The State Government is extending its 'Buy Local' campaign with a drive to encourage Western Australians to spend their holiday dollars in the State.
Premier Carmen Lawrence today launched the WA Tourism Commission's latest efforts to attract holidaymakers to Western Australia.
The campaign includes special incentives for holidays throughout the State from October to December.
Involving 200 of the State's top tourism operators, it includes a holiday package for interstate visitors costing $399 for airfares and five nights' accommodation.
Dr Lawrence said the $325,000 campaign would remind Western Australians of the exciting holiday experiences available in their State.
It would help to keep holiday dollars - and jobs - in WA.
Dr Lawrence said that for each $1 million spent by tourists in WA 14.6 jobs were created
Tourism was a major contribution to the State's economy and to the development of regional areas.
The State's tourism industry had performed well, despite the difficult economic times.
For the nine months ending March this year, interstate visitor nights spent in WA were up 42 per cent on those for the same period last year.
In those months, WA was a clear leader in interstate tourism growth, outperforming Queensland which had a 25 per cent increase.
