Education Minister Kay Hallahan today issued a writ for defamation against Opposition frontbencher Cheryl Edwardes.
Mrs Edwardes' remarks were broadcast on ABC radio and television on Saturday.
The Minister said claims that she had received complaints about the Western Women group prior to its collapse were untrue.
"The allegation that I failed to act on advice to sever the link between the Western Women group and WIRE is also untrue as I never received any such advice," she said.
Mrs Hallahan said that she told the Pike committee, under oath, that no complaints were brought to her attention nor was she given advice to end WIRE's association with Western Women.
"This was confirmed by the senior public servant responsible for women's interests, Margaret Wort, when she gave evidence under oath to the committee," she said.
The Minister said she had recently made herself available to the Pike committee in order to answer any allegations.
"Mrs Edwardes, and members of the media who publish her remarks, would do well to read the transcript of my evidence to the committee in which I address the claims she is making," she said.
