The State Government has allocated $139,000 in this year's Capital Works Program for planning fees for a new Department of Agriculture complex to be built in Albany.

A further $200,000 has been earmarked for purchase of a suitable site for the complex.

Agriculture Minister Ernie Bridge said it was a nonsense for Monty House to claim that nothing was being done about building a new centre.

"Considerable work has already occurred, including detailed investigation of a site in Mercer Road which was later found to be inappropriate for environmental and physical reasons," he said.

"Since then, alternative sites have been identified and the Department of Land Administration is currently involved in purchase negotiations with the owners."

Mr Bridge said he expected construction of the multi-million dollar complex to begin in 1993/94 following completion of the planning process.
