The choice of a site for a saleyards facility after the Midland lease expires next year has narrowed to two options, but Agriculture Minister Ernie Bridge says the industry is divided on which site would be most suitable.
Mr Bridge said a meeting yesterday of the Saleyards Consultative Group - comprising representatives of the Western Australian Farmers' Federation, Pastoralists' and Graziers' Association, WA Livestock Salesman's Association, Meat and Allied Trades Federation, Livestock Transporters' Association, and Rural Action Movement - failed to reach a unanimous decision.
The two options are retention of the existing site, whether by land swap or other means, or acquisition of a new site north of, but in close proximity to Midland.
"Strong views have been put forward in favour of each option, and I will now take those comments back to Cabinet for consideration over the next few weeks," Mr Bridge said.
