Prominent greyhound identity David Simonette has been appointed as the industry's representative on the Western Australian Greyhound Racing Association committee.

Racing and Gaming Minister Pam Beggs said today Mr Simonette's appointment was in line with a commitment to the industry that it would have direct representation on the committee.

Mrs Beggs said Mr Simonette had been nominated by the WA Greyhound Breeders', Owners' and Trainers' Association and the Avon Valley Greyhound Racing Association.

He has owned, bred and trained greyhounds since 1979 and for 12 months was a stipendiary steward with the Greyhound Association.

Mr Simonette is well-known for his pre-race previews on radio station 6PR and is a regular contributor to a number of industry publications.

Mrs Beggs said she was pleased Mr Simonette had accepted the nomination and was sure he would make an invaluable contribution to the work of the new committee.
