Acting Premier Eric Ripper today welcomed the latest ABS employment figures showing Western Australia is maintaining its position as the powerhouse economy in Australia.
Mr Ripper said today’s figures showed that employment in WA continued to grow, with the total number of people employed in both full-time and part-time jobs increasing by 3,600 from November to December 2005.
“This is the highest monthly increase of any State,” the Acting Premier said.
“There are more people looking for work and, in our economy, we have the best employment opportunities in the country.”
The seasonally adjusted number of persons employed increased by 3,600 to 1,055,900.
“WA also maintained its position as having the lowest unemployment rate of any State,” Mr Ripper said.
“The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in December was 4.3 per cent.”
WA’s seasonally adjusted participation rate for December 2005 also increased to 67.9 per cent - the highest of all the States.
