Acting Premier Eric Ripper today announced that Alan Carpenter would be sworn in as Western Australia’s next Premier at Government House on Wednesday.

Mr Ripper said Mr Carpenter would be elected unopposed as parliamentary leader of the Labor Party at a Caucus meeting tomorrow morning.

The Acting Premier said the Governor His Excellency Dr Ken Michael would swear in Mr Carpenter at 10am.

Prior to this Dr Geoff Gallop will formally resign his commission as Premier of Western Australia.

Dr Gallop is not required to attend Government House.

Mr Ripper said Caucus would meet again next Tuesday to vote on the Ministerial positions made vacant by the resignations of Dr Gallop and Environment Minister Judy Edwards.

Mr Carpenter would then allocate portfolios with a swearing in ceremony for new Ministers expected to take place at Government House later in the week.
