Consumer and Employment Protection Minister John Kobelke and Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan have called on all parties involved in the construction of the city rail project to respect the Australian Industrial Relations Commission’s (AIRC) ruling.

The AIRC today issued a strike ban for the duration of the city rail project.

Mr Kobelke said the Gallop Government had always advocated for an independent umpire to adjudicate when an agreement cannot be reached at a workplace.

“We are pleased to see the Commissioner has offered to help both parties through the orders and explicitly said the union and employer must report to the Commission every three months.

“This is a sensible way to manage any on-going problems on the project,” he said.

Ms MacTiernan said that the Government expected all the parties involved would abide by the Commissioner’s order.

“The State Government will respect the AIRC ruling and we would hope the unions will too,” she said.
