Agriculture Minister Kim Chance and Local Government and Regional Development Minister John Bowler have welcomed the appointment of eight new members to Western Australia’s Rural, Remote and Regional (RRR) Women’s Network reference group.

The network is a joint initiative by the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Local Government and Regional Development and aims to enhance information exchange among country families across WA.

Mr Chance said the new members brought a broad range of interests, expertise and background to the group and were acutely aware of issues that had an impact on women.

“The group members play an integral role in the network and providing a forum for issues and opportunities affecting rural women, their families and communities to be communicated to government,” he said.

“The group, which was founded more than nine years ago, has become a strong unifying link for sharing information to women living in regional WA.”

Mr Bowler praised the RRR Women’s Network for providing an excellent networking mechanism and making an important contribution to the development of women and communities in regional WA.

The Minister said the recent launch of the Network’s interactive website was testament to the commitment of the RRR Network to providing relevant and up-to-date information to rural, remote and regional women, industries, government and communities.

The new appointees are: Millie Ferguson, New Norcia, Sabrina Guidici, Carnarvon, Eliza Thomas, Mullewa, Prue Jenkins, Northam, Kathleen Menck, Esperance, Donna Fahie, Jandakot, Brenda Tilbrook, Ravensthorpe and Gillian Sellar, Denmark.

Both Rosa Lincoln and Wendy Newman were re-appointed to the group and will join the new members and the five remaining sitting members. Rosa Lincoln was appointed chair of the RRR Network.

Both Ministers thanked retiring members, former chair Nicole Egginton, Julie Weir, Michele Bentink, Jenny Okely, Gail Bellotti and Lynne Mitchell, for their valuable contribution to the network.

“The Gallop Government is ensuring regional WA receives its fair share,” Mr Chance said.
