Main Roads WA personnel in the Goldfields-Esperance region have a new administration complex - the first Government building in Western Australia to be regularly audited for its sustainability and efficient use of energy.

Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan officially opened the new building, which is located on Piesse Street in Boulder, at a ceremony on site today.

“The current Main Roads’ Goldfields-Esperance Regional Office was constructed in 1965,” Ms MacTiernan said.

“We wanted to achieve a good planning outcome with the new building, so we decided to bring the MRWA office and its 30 staff into the heart of Boulder.

“The new complex will provide an important injection of people into Boulder’s central business district, deliver a fresh look to Piesse Street and will ensure that the public has access to professional staff and efficient services in this expanding region of the State.”

The $3.29million contract for the new premises was concluded in October. The project, which was undertaken by Cooper & Oxley Builders, was completed on time and under budget.

Ms MacTiernan said the design of the modern office building included sustainable and energy efficient practices and the building had been designed to meet the Australian Building Greenhouse Rating (AGBR) of four stars, which is part of the State Government’s recently launched Sustainability Policy.

“This rating commits Main Roads to ensuring that the building is operated and maintained so that it continues to achieve the rating of four stars,” she said.

“The commitment also requires Main Roads to verify its rating by having audits carried out annually.

“This is the first State Government building or agency to undertake this process.”
