Housing and Works Minister Francis Logan today launched a project that could raise up to $70,000 to enhance Perth Glory’s commitment to soccer in Western Australia.

The ‘Somerly Home of Glory’ will be built by Summit Homes in the rapidly developing Somerly Estate in the City of Wanneroo, 30km north of Perth’s CBD.

It will be open for inspection as a display home for about a year before it is sold, with all profits going to Perth Glory’s ‘Glory in the Community’ program.

‘Glory in the Community’ is a series of activities conducted in local communities, including coaching clinics, charity events, family outings, competitions and school activities.

Mr Logan said the ‘Home of Glory’ project would also promote public interest in the Somerly Estate, which would ultimately yield 1,800 new lots in a joint development between the Department of Housing and Works and Macquarie Bank Real Estate Equity Funds.

The project is being managed by award-winning company Urban Pacific Ltd.

The home will be built in Riverlinks Drive, on land provided by the joint venturers and will be completed by April next year.

Mr Logan and the other key stakeholders in the project today signed a super-sized soccer ball to formalise the sponsorship agreement.

“This is a fabulous project which will prove beneficial to all stakeholders and ultimately be of tremendous value to the development of soccer in this State,” he said.

“By co-operating with each other, we have created a win-win situation for all.

“As a committed soccer fan, I am pleased that my department can play a role in ensuring that WA remains a force on the national soccer scene.”

Somerly is a market-leading design project that integrates many lifestyle advantages, including easy access to the ocean at the Mindarie Marina and the convenience of its own transit transport station.

The estate also offers a number of high-quality landscaped parks and many different sized lots. It is hoped this will attract a broad range of residents, creating a dynamic and exciting place to live.

Under the two-year sponsorship agreement, the Somerly joint venture will get signage rights at Perth Glory’s home games, two Perth Glory coaching clinics will be conducted at Somerly each year and a pre-season match will be played at Somerly.

Western QBE will contribute financially towards promotional activities and Channel 7 and Nova 93.7 will publicise the project at no cost.
