Event organisers urged to apply for second round of funding

Tourism Minister Mark McGowan today urged regional event organisers to apply for funding before round two of the Regional Event Scheme closed on November 25.

“Nineteen regional events were recently granted more than $250,000 to assist with hosting events as part of round one of the Regional Event Scheme,” Mr McGowan said.

“EventsCorp received applications from 46 events and I would encourage event organisers who missed out in round one to apply for funding in this round.

“As well as injecting money into the local economy and generating media coverage, regional events help build and develop communities and generate community pride.

“Tourism is a major economic driver for Western Australia and the Gallop Government is committed to growing the industry to create more jobs and opportunities for locals.”

To apply for funding, event organisers are required to show that an event is of State significance. There needs to be a proven track record of good management, confirmed private sector sponsors, large visitor numbers or ability to attract media attention and the event needs to be conducted in the non-peak tourist season.

Two types of grants are available through the Regional Event Scheme this year: Tier One is a one-off grant of up to $20,000 for small to medium events that meet the developmental potential criteria; or Tier Two, which is for those building on already successful events, a regional icon development grant of up to $50,000.
