    Western Australians are invited to have their say in a review of the laws affecting caravan parks and camping grounds.

    A discussion paper reviewing the Caravan Parks and Camping Grounds Act 1995 has been produced for comment by key stakeholders and members of the public.

    Some of the issues raised in the paper include:
    • powers of entry and inspection of caravan parks and camping grounds by Government representatives;
    • methods of enforcement and penalties available under the current legislation; and
    • the regulations governing where people may camp.
    Local Government and Regional Development Minister John Bowler said the discussion paper offered an opportunity for local governments and the community to provide feedback on the effectiveness of the Act.

    “Constructive feedback and suggestions will enable a more efficient review to be conducted,” Mr Bowler said.

    Reviewing the Act will determine areas where improvements are desirable and, consequently, where changes need to be made to the legislation.

    "This is an important opportunity for interested members of the public to provide their comments on the issues raised in the paper,” the Minister said.

    “The review continues the Gallop Government’s aim of improving the quality of services to all Western Australians and visitors to the State.”

    Further information and copies of the discussion paper are available at http://www.dlgrd.wa.gov.au or contact the Department of Local Government and Regional Development on (08) 9217 1500, freecall (country callers) 1800 620 511 or email: camping@dlgrd.wa.gov.au

    Public submissions close on November 23.
