Local Government and Regional Development Minister John Bowler today announced two senior reappointments to the Western Australian Local Government Grants Commission.

John Lynch has been reappointed as chairperson of the commission for a two-year term.

Mr Lynch has been the chairperson of the commission since July 2001 and was deputy chairperson since 1992.

Prior to retiring from the public sector in 2001, Mr Lynch was the executive director of the Department of Local Government for 10 years.

Department of Local Government and Regional Development’s Director Governance and Statutory Support, Quentin Harrington, has also been reappointed to the commission as deputy chairperson for a three-year term.

Mr Harrington has held senior positions in the public sector for over 10 years.

The commission oversees the distribution of Australian Government funded grants of more than $180million to WA’s 142 local governments annually.

Mr Bowler said Mr Lynch had ensured the commission maintained its open and consultative approach and that he would provide strong leadership to the commission as it worked with local government to address the significant issues confronting the sector in coming years.
