The State Government has awarded a $1,001,490 contract for the construction of four one-bedroom and four two-bedroom units in Bayswater.
Housing and Works Minister Francis Logan said the project at the corner of Guildford Road and Newton Street would go some way towards meeting the strong demand for rental accommodation in the City of Bayswater.
Mr Logan said the Department of Housing and Works (DHW) had awarded the contract to the Midland-based company, Perum Building and Construction Pty Ltd.
It was hoped construction would be completed by July 2006.
The Minister said the units would cater for singles, couples and small families and provide much needed public housing close to all services and amenities in and around Bayswater.
“The department has a very strong demand for housing from singles, couples and small families in the City of Bayswater, with some applicants waiting up to five years for an offer of accommodation,” he said.
“Demand continues to grow for smaller households and this project demonstrates the ongoing commitment by the department to respond to the needs of various client groups.”
