A State Government grant of $17,000 will enable the Morawa Telecentre to expand its services and secure the future of local telecentres.

Local Government and Regional Development Minister John Bowler said the funds from the Regional Collocation Scheme would contribute to the building extension and renovation of the telecentre.

As part of the Government's commitment to providing a fairer deal for regional Western Australians, the scheme is providing $7.3million in funding for capital works to enable the collocation of Government and non-Government organisations.

Mr Bowler said that once completed, the upgrade of the telecentre would provide residents with improved access to public amenities and business facilities, such as video conferencing and meeting rooms. It would also provide for the operations of the local newspaper.

“The Morawa Telecentre has established itself as an important service provider in the community and I am pleased to be able to support its work and help to expand its operations,” the Minister said.

“Facilities such as this are an important way to offer social and economic support to local communities and reduces the need to travel distances to access important business services.

“The project is also a good example of cross-Government co-operation with additional financial and in-kind support from the Federal Government and the Shire of Morawa.”
