A final decision on the resumption of Perry Lakes Stadium has been deferred for a week while the impact of the project on Government finances is clarified.
Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan said while in the long term, the proposal would be cost-neutral to Government, there were impacts on annual budgets and debt targets over the forward estimates that might impact on other projects.
“I am confident that this work can be completed in the next week, allowing the State Government to make a decision on the way forward,” Ms MacTiernan said.
“This is a very big project, which has been discussed and debated since 1998.
“I am very conscious that the sporting codes affected want a decision as quickly as possible - both the Minister for Sport and Recreation and myself are committed to finding a speedy resolution.
“But we need to ensure the State can manage the project’s short-term financial impacts.”
