Yalgoo train station will be home to a new community centre after the State Government committed $110,000 to the renovation and restoration of the heritage-listed building.

Local Government and Regional Development Minister and local member John Bowler said the funding was part of the $7.3million State Government Regional Collocation Scheme, which was established to assist with the development of multi-functional outlets in remote communities.

“The station is perfectly situated to service the community and encourage visitors to the town,” Mr Bowler said.

“Once complete, the building will collocate the operations of the Community Mailing Service, tourist information, Centrelink, employment services, an internet caf, fuel station and gallery.

“Service providers in the building will share access to meeting rooms, training and office facilities, archival storage, reception, computer and other office equipment.”

Due to Yalgoo’s isolation, the new Community Centre would address some of the community’s significant social, health and employment issues and continues the Gallop Government’s improvement of services to all Western Australians, wherever they live.

“The centre will provide opportunities for locals to access culturally appropriate services, and provide much needed training and employment prospects in the town,” the Minister said.
