State Government funding is playing a key role in assisting the remote community of Warakurna, located in the Ngaanyatjarra Lands, establish a new multi-function centre.

The centre will accommodate the Warakurna Telecentre, a health learning and skill centre and videoconference facilities, with the State Government committing $150,000 to the project through its Regional Collocation Scheme funding program.

Local Government and Regional Development Minister John Bowler said the $7.3million scheme provided capital works funding to assist with the development of infrastructure for the collocation of Government and non-Government organisations.

“The centre will alleviate some of the isolation in Warakurna by providing local access to a range of services including community-based health and community development training, computers and Internet access, videoconferencing and a range of information technologies,” Mr Bowler said.

“It is another example of how the Gallop Government is improving the quality of services to all Western Australians, wherever they live.

“The centre will be owned and managed by Ngaanyatjarra Health Inc and the involvement of the Ngaanyatjarra community in the centre’s management will ensure that services are culturally appropriate and meet the needs of the local community.”
