A State Government grant of $137,877 will assist with the development of the Kalannie Community Hall and secure the future of local telecentre services.

In announcing funding, Local Government and Regional Development Minister John Bowler said funding had been provided from the Regional Collocation Scheme to help fund extensions to the Kalannie Community Hall.

The Regional Collocation Scheme is a key State Government initiative, providing $7.3million in funding for capital works to assist with the development of appropriate infrastructure for the collocation of Government and non-Government organisations.

Mr Bowler said once the extensions to the hall were completed, it would provide for the collocation of the telecentre, Rural Transaction Centre, library, community newspaper, toy library, a training, meeting and video conference area and community archive space.

The Minister said the Gallop Government was keen to support effective delivery of regional services by encouraging Government and non-Government organisations to share resources from one location. Collocation had the potential to offer cost savings to the groups sharing the building, as well as improving local service provision.

“This project makes good use of existing under-utilised infrastructure,” Mr Bowler said.

“Not only does it make good economic sense, but it provides residents with up-to-date accommodation and communication facilities and improved access to a range of Government and non-Government services.”

The Minister commended the Kalannie Community Telecentre and the Shire of Dalwallinu on their commitment and vision to the project. He said the project was a good example of cross-government co-operation with additional cash and in-kind contributions being made by the Shire of Dalwallinu, Lotterywest and Commonwealth Government.

“It is all about promoting partnerships, building stronger communities and ensuring regional Western Australia receives its fair share,” Mr Bowler said.
