Seniors’ Minister Bob Kucera today called on people living in regional areas to stop keeping good ideas to themselves.

“I am looking for ideas on new ways to expand the Seniors Card that will specifically benefit regional seniors,” Mr Kucera said.

“After visiting the north of the State for a regional Cabinet meeting last week, I found some seniors were concerned the Seniors Card was too focused on metropolitan services.

“While most of the State’s population is in the metropolitan area, that does not mean we should exclude benefits to regional seniors.

“The card was introduced to give some reward to our valued senior citizens, who have contributed so much to society throughout their lives.

“I see no reason why seniors living in regional Western Australia should not receive as much reward as those living in the metropolitan area. Improving services like this for regional people is part of the Gallop Government’s plan to ensure that regional WA receives its fair share.”

The Minister said he was looking for suggestions for new services from seniors and from businesses that want to be a part of the Senior’s Card.

He said that more than 220,000 seniors were using the card successfully and making use of the $20million benefits it provides each year.

“I have seconded local MPs Carol Martin, Shelley Archer, Jon Ford, Fred Reibling, Vince Catania and Tom Stephens to collect ideas from people in the north of the State for consideration,” he said.
