Agriculture Minister Kim Chance today said he was delighted that funding had been allocated to keep the men’s health initiative alive in the Wheatbelt.

In the 2005-06 State Budget allocation for agriculture there is $480,000 for the continuation of the men’s health program run in conjunction with the Health Department.

Mr Chance said the four-year funding commitment should enable both surety of outlook for the staff involved and opportunity to leverage additional funding.

“The Wheatbelt Men’s Health Inc and the Central Division of General Practice have played crucial roles in the development and delivery of men’s health and suicide prevention programs. I congratulate all involved,” he said.

“The Government funding will ensure that men’s health activities will be conducted across the State’s Wheatbelt. The Gallop Government is ensuring regional Western Australia receives its fair share.”

The Department of Agriculture will liaise with Wheatbelt Men’s Health Inc and its members to develop detailed business and operational plans for the initiative.

It is expected that the plans will be approved by the end of July and the department will ensure the activities do not suffer adverse impacts of any short-term cash flow issues.
