The State Government today honoured an election commitment and handed over $1million for the development of a multipurpose community and recreation centre in Kambalda.
Goldfields-Esperance Minister John Bowler today inspected the site of the future centre in Kambalda, aimed at providing a diverse range of services to the community.
The modern facility will offer recreation, education and leisure facilities.
“The centre will become the hub and heart for the community - encompassing facilities such as a crche, health and fitness club, both indoor and outdoor sports courts, caf, function room and a children’s adventure playground,” Mr Bowler said.
“The Gallop Government is committed to increasing opportunities for regional people to become more involved and experience a variety of recreational activities.
“This facility will help draw people together to build the social capital which will help preserve and enhance the community lifestyle.
“It will offer a place the community can use to add to the quality of life that Kambalda has to offer.”
The centre will be located on the existing West Hall site - in close proximity to the community’s other facilities - and offer an assorted range of services such as a toy library, fitness classes and both children’s and seniors’ activities.
“The State Government is committed to supporting healthy lifestyles and putting in place programs and infrastructures in regional towns that encourage everyone to become more physically active and involved within their communities,” the Minister said.
The Shire of Coolgardie aims to have the facility open in mid-2007.
