Attorney General Jim McGinty today announced the appointment of Elaine Campione as the new magistrate for Port Hedland.

Ms Campione will replace magistrate Denis Temby, who takes up his new position in Kalgoorlie.

Mr McGinty said Ms Campione was a highly qualified solicitor with more than 16 years’ experience, who in recent years had specialised in Family Law.

Ms Campione has also appeared in the Supreme, District and Children’s courts.

"I am extremely pleased that a person of such high standing in the legal fraternity is not only joining the judiciary but is keen to move to a regional area to take on this important role,” the Attorney General said.

"Ms Campione will be a valuable addition to the Port Hedland community and will ensure the court continues to operate efficiently."

Ms Campione attended primary and high school in Port Hedland and lived in the area for about 12 years.

She was admitted in 1989 and joined firm Bowen Buchbinder Vilensky in 1990, where she has been a partner since 1995.

Mr McGinty said the Port Hedland community would benefit from Ms Campione's knowledge of the area and issues affecting residents.

“She has a good understanding of the issues affecting Port Hedland and I am confident she will be able to meet the needs of the local community,” he said.

Ms Campione will take up her appointment as a magistrate on May 30.

After completing a period of induction in Perth, she will commence her duties in Port Hedland later this year.
