    Kimberley Minister Jon Ford has called on local organisations to get behind a State Government initiative aimed at advancing the Kimberley region.

    Mr Ford said the funding from the Kimberley Regional Development Scheme was still available and urged applicants with worthwhile projects to apply before May 13.

    “As Minister for the Kimberley I am keen to see projects come forward and receive recognition and funding that directly benefit our youth and indigenous communities in particular,” he said.

    “The aim of the scheme is to improve the social and economic development in Kimberley by funding projects that assist in attracting investment and increasing jobs in the region.”

    Eligible applicants may include local government, voluntary organisations, educational institutions, philanthropic foundations and community organisations.

    Projects requiring funds from the scheme (between $2,000 and $150,000) are currently being considered.

    The Minister said regarding funding allocations for this financial year, priority had been given to initiatives that attracted, developed and/or promoted one or more of the following:
    • activities to attract investment and/or create employment opportunities in the region;
    • regional Infrastructure Development;
    • youth initiatives;
    • new industry initiatives;
    • community initiatives;
    • projects that support indigenous groups and/or economic equity; and
    • regional leadership and governance.
    “Together we can build better communities, and by working together, help improve the quality of services, job opportunities and a lifestyle we all can enjoy,” Mr Ford said.

    “I urge applicants to get on board the Kimberley Regional Development Scheme - a program that ensures regional Western Australia receives its fair share.”
