Expressions of interest in State Government grants of between $100,000 and $5million to support significant infrastructure projects in regional Western Australian are due by 5pm Tuesday, June 7.

Local Government and Regional Development Minister John Bowler today called for organisations to take advantage of the Regional Infrastructure Funding Program (RIFP) grants, part of the Gallop Government's $80million Regional Investment Fund.

Mr Bowler said the Gallop Government's RIFP had already provided significant funding to many important capital infrastructure projects throughout regional WA since 2001.

“These grants are helping to create new jobs and opportunities in regional WA by supporting sustainable regional development,” he said.

“Funds may be granted to capital projects which will help attract investment, expand industries or improve community access to services."

Business and community organisations, local governments, government agencies and other bodies contributing to regional development are eligible to apply.

“The grants could help with the capital costs of industrial or transport infrastructure, health and education facilities, tourism amenities or other initiatives that will help attract and retain residents.

“Regional projects that have already benefited through the RIFP include the Derby Airport extension, Geraldton CBD and foreshore redevelopment, Busselton Jetty Underwater Observatory and the Fairbridge Village.”

For more information about RIFP, contact the Department of Local Government and Regional Development on 92171463 or free call 1800 620 511, or visit the Department of Local Government and Regional Development's website at http://www.dlgrd.wa.gov.au/regionDev/financialAssist/RIF.asp

Expressions of interest received by 5pm Tuesday, June 7 will be assessed by the department and selected applicants helped to develop their proposals.
