State Government grants of between $100,000 and $5million are available to support significant infrastructure projects in regional Western Australian.

Local Government and Regional Development Minister John Bowler today called for expressions of interest in the Regional Infrastructure Funding Program (RIFP) grants.

“These grants support sustainable regional development by helping to create new jobs and opportunities in regional Western Australia,” Mr Bowler said.

“Capital projects which will help attract investment, expand industries or improve community access to services may be funded.

“For instance, they could help meet the capital costs of industrial or transport infrastructure, tourism amenities, health and education facilities or other initiatives that will help attract and retain residents.

“Business and community organisations, local governments, government agencies and other bodies contributing to regional development are eligible to apply.”

Mr Bowler said the Gallop Government’s RIFP had already provided significant funding to many important capital infrastructure projects throughout regional WA since 2001.

“Examples of regional projects that have already benefited through the RIFP include the Busselton Jetty Underwater Observatory; Derby Airport extension, Fairbridge Village; and the Geraldton CBD and foreshore redevelopment,” the Minister said.

For more information about RIFP, contact the Department of Local Government and Regional Development on 92171463 or free call 1800 620 511, or visit the Department of Local Government and Regional Development’s website at http://www.dlgrd.wa.gov.au/regionDev/financialAssist/RIF.asp

Expressions of interest received by 5pm Tuesday, June 7 2005, would be assessed by the department and selected applicants helped to develop their proposals.

RIFP is part of the Gallop Government’s $80million Regional Investment Fund.
